Support to take part, connect and belong
Community inclusion is about having real opportunities outside the home. Solas helps adults access appointments, activities, relationships and local experiences that reflect their interests and choices.
More than simply going out
Meaningful participation begins with the person deciding what they want to do. Support may involve planning, preparing, travelling, communicating, managing practical barriers and building confidence over time.
An outing should have a purpose for the individual, whether that is enjoyment, independence, learning, health or social connection.
Community support may include
Appointments
Help preparing for and attending agreed health, social-care or administrative appointments. Solas does not speak for the person unless this has been requested and is appropriate.
Social and Recreational Activities
Assistance taking part in hobbies, events, exercise, cafés, local groups or other chosen interests.
Everyday Community Tasks
Support with shopping, using local amenities, collecting items or becoming familiar with a route.
Building Confidence
Gradual practice with communication, planning, time management and navigating community settings.
Transport Assistance
Help organising or using suitable transport, and accompaniment during agreed journeys. The exact method must be defined before the service begins.
Clear transport arrangements
Transport support does not automatically mean that Solas provides a vehicle. Depending on the plan, assistance may involve public transport, a taxi, a family-arranged vehicle or another approved option.
Any journey must have suitable insurance, consent, seat and mobility arrangements, costs and responsibilities confirmed in advance.
Individualised outcomes
This service is informed by the New Directions principle that adults with disabilities should have opportunities to live according to their own wishes, needs and aspirations. Progress might mean attending an activity independently, making a new connection or becoming comfortable in a previously difficult setting.
Outcomes are personal and should not be reduced to the number of outings completed.
Frequently asked questions
Can Solas attend medical appointments with me?
Potentially, as practical accompaniment. Clinical advice, diagnosis and treatment remain the responsibility of qualified healthcare professionals.
Are activity costs included?
Unless stated otherwise, admission fees, meals, taxis and personal purchases are separate from the support charge. Costs should be agreed before the outing.
Can I choose the activities?
Yes. Options should reflect your preferences while remaining safe, available and within the agreed service.
Is transport available for every enquiry?
No. The travel method depends on the journey, mobility needs, consent, insurance and current service capacity.
